What is Ozone Sanitisation?

Ozone Sanitisation is a natural, safe and highly effective sanitation method that eliminates or reduces the need for traditional sanitation chemicals in situations where clean is critical. Ozone systems often save water, energy, chemicals and waste, while producing no harmful by-products.

Ozone purification is recommended only as a supplement to sanitisers. Ozone Purifiers greatly enhance the quality of the spa water when used in conjunction with an industry standard spa chemical maintenance program.

How Does Ozone Sanitisation Work?

Ozone Sanitisation does not replace the need for chemicals but works to maintain clean, clear water and reduce the chemical load by 50-60% (dependant on use). The ozone generator runs and sanitises the water when the filtration pump is running. As Ozone is one of nature’s most powerful oxidizers for purifying water and other substances, it creates no dangerous by-products, corrosion or disposal issues. For these reasons, it is fast becoming the preferred eco-friendly method.

Ozonators work by forcing ozone to dissolve in the water, instantly neutralising or killing a wider range of contaminants. As with ozone from the protective layer of the atmosphere, ozone produced from the ozone generator oxidises the substances it encounters, including bacteria, viruses, algae, oils, human fluids, fungus, chlorine by-products like chloramines, and some metallic elements.

Ozone Versus UV Sanitisation

The very first thing to understand is that UV, even UV ozone, is not as effective as the corona discharge (CD) ozonator in providing a reliable broad spectrum disinfectant. The best of the alternatives to CD ozone is UV sanitisation and is limited by the fact that ONLY water flowing through the light chamber is treated, whereas CD ozone is injected into the water downstream from the pump, so there is a small residual effect. Further, the CD ozonator mechanically controls the ozone production for amore reliable sanitiser that does not require frequent lamp cleaning or replacement.

UV Sanitisation

UV Sanitisation is a non-chemical process that uses germicidal UV light rays to sanitise the spas water. The highly concentrated electromagnetic energy also destroys organic matter found in spas, eliminating the formation of dangerous chlorine biproducts. To obtain the best results from a UV Sanitisation system, it is recommended that it be used along side an Ozone Sanitisation System.
