Why Installation Planning Matters

Buying the right spa is only half the job. A smooth installation depends on what happens before delivery day. If access, base preparation, power requirements and placement details are not checked early, even a great spa purchase can become stressful.

This spa installation guide covers the most important things to confirm before your spa arrives, so you can avoid delays and make setup much easier.

1. Confirm Site Access

One of the most important steps is checking the full delivery path from the street to the final spa location. Measure gates, side paths, corners, overhead clearances and any tight turning points. Do not just measure the final pad area. The spa still needs to get there first.

If your access is tight, a more compact model from our hot tub range or 2 person spas may be easier to install.

2. Prepare the Base Properly

Your spa needs a stable, level and suitable supporting surface. The exact base requirements may vary by model, but the key principle is simple: the surface must be able to safely support the full operating weight of the spa, including water and bathers.

Before delivery, make sure the installation area is:

  • level and structurally suitable
  • clear of obstacles
  • large enough for the spa cabinet and cover clearance
  • easy to access for future maintenance if needed

3. Check Electrical Requirements Early

Do not leave electrical planning to the last minute. Spa power setup should be checked in advance so that the required connection can be arranged before or shortly after delivery. This is especially important for larger models and swim spas, which may involve more planning.

4. Think About Cover Opening Space

Many buyers plan for the spa footprint but forget about the lid. Make sure there is enough room for the cover to open comfortably and for you to move around the spa safely. Tight fences or walls can make a good layout feel awkward if this step is ignored.

5. Plan Water Fill and Drainage

Before installation day, think about how the spa will be filled and how routine draining will be managed. Practical access to a hose point and sensible drainage planning can make long-term ownership much easier.

6. Consider How You Will Actually Use the Space

Installation is not just technical. Think about how people will walk around the spa, where steps may sit, whether privacy screening is needed and how the spa will fit the wider backyard layout. A good installation should support comfort and daily use, not just physical placement.

7. Match the Spa to the Site

Not every backyard suits every model. If space is moderate and you want family flexibility, compare our 5 person spas. If access is tighter, a smaller spa may be the better fit. If your site has the length and support for a bigger system, a swim spa may be worth considering.

Final Checklist Before Delivery Day

  • measure the full delivery path
  • confirm the final placement area and cover clearance
  • prepare a stable and level base
  • review electrical requirements
  • plan water fill and drainage
  • keep the access route clear on the day

Final Advice

The easiest spa installation is the one that is planned early. If you confirm access, base, power and layout before delivery day, the whole process becomes smoother and far less stressful.

To choose a model that suits your site, start by comparing our portable spa and hot tub options, our family-friendly 5 person spas, or our swim spas if you are planning a larger installation.
